Mountain

The NU cycling mountain bike team is a force to be reckoned with in the collegiate race scene and can also be found riding the streets of Boston or ripping up trails all around the city. Riders from all disciplines make up the husky mountain squad, competing in downhill, dual slalom, and cross country. The team travels to collegiate mountain bike races every fall hosted by schools of the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference. These weekends are a blast, as we pack up the trailer tight with bikes, redbull, and gear, pile into the van, and occasionally wear helmets while driving through toll booths. The races are laid back, always a good time, and a great way to hang out with others who share a passion for biking. Whether we are braving early snow and freezing rain at Plattekill or ripping through the mud and rocks at Sunday River, the races always provide a nice break from classes and the hectic college life. On top of the races, the team often goes on street rides in Boston, hitting up the local hot spots and super secret slalom tracks. When wanting to hit the dirt, the team goes on trail rides at Lynn Woods, Vietnam, and other sweet spots surrounding Boston. When it turns cold we often head up to Rye Airfield Skate Park for some indoor riding to cure our winter riding blues. The team is always looking to improve on its strong fall season performance by racing at many local and national NORBA races in the summer, and riding different venues throughout the country.

Even if you’ve never raced in your life, we encourage you to come out with the team and give it a shot. We have more than enough experience on our team to get you ready to race, and the ECCC provides excellent opportunities for all levels of riders. Make sure to come to our meetings and keep an eye on the forum, because we are always out riding and looking for new people to join us.
